Spent a fun 5 hours in the Emergency room yesterday evening. Went to moms to see if she had mail to go. M and G were there talking outside. G said she would check with mom about the mail, discovered her in the bathroom all slumped over. Yelled for me and M. Mark took one look at her and said call 911.

She’s had another stroke. It’s been about 20 years since the last one. (which was mild compared to this one.)

They gave us all sorts of options depending on the results of the cat scan. They have some kind of drug now that they can give patients that breaks up blood clots, the risk is that it might also cause bleeding. She didn’t have any bleeding on the brain, but did have a large clot.

They can go in and inject at the sight of the clot, but in order to do that they would have to intubate her but she has a DNR and has been adamant about not being kept alive. So in order to do the injection the DNR would need to be rescinded. She wasn’t responsive enough, and can’t talk, to be able to say yes to that. We talked about it but we couldn’t go against her wishes. Do it it could kill her, not do it she could still die.

So were going for keeping her comfortable and hoping that we can get hospice and take her home.

We didn’t get a call in the night, and so far this today I haven’t gotten a call at work. G and M are there so if something happened they would call.

It’s now a waiting game. She’s 93 and we’ve all been expecting this day, but when it comes you really are ready. Up until yesterday she still lived the life she wanted, in her own home, doing what she wanted. She is never even going to be close to how she was.

We were all kind of hoping that when she went she would go in her sleep and not be subjected to all the hospital crap or end up in a nursing home, which isn’t going to happen, dad almost died while he was in the one in town.

Any way, so we wait and try to think positive.
