Marty and the Rubber Band
JE 06.01.24
Got home for work on Tuesday and the sister was freaking out. She thought the cat had eaten a rubber band.
Back Story ~ We have a drawer that we keep the phone books in, pens, paper and the errant rubber band. The cat has a hard on for them. If he can get his paws on them he bites them into pieces. We have to be really careful about making sure the drawer gets closed completely. He has Ninja powers.
She had been in the drawer to get the calculator and didn’t get it closed good. (cat was upstairs sleeping). She came back into the dining room like 2 minutes later and found pieces of a blue rubber band. In its original form it was about two inches in diameter, there was one little piece that was about a half an inch. She searched and searched and didn’t find any more pieces. Conclusion the dumb bunny had eaten it.
Call to the vet. Basically, keep watch on him. If he started throwing up, acted in distress, time for the emergency vet. If he had consumed a big piece, it could wreak havoc with his intestines, emergency surgery time. Fun!
We’ve watched him for days. She’s been afraid to leave him alone. If he started throwing up and it was the rubber band, he could choke.
He’s been eating, playing, acting like there is no issue. Finally last night he pooped. (Google was wrong! said that after a couple of hours a cat’s stomach would be empty, but it would take 15 to 30 hours for his digestive tract to work thru what he had eaten, 72 hours later he pooped.
And there was no rubber band in the poop. So, did he eat it???? Did he hide the pieces? WTF. We will see what another day brings.
Still not acting any different then he usually does.
